A lady sued the owners of four strip clubs in Houston, Texas, claiming that they refused to allow Black women to work during their scheduled hours because there were "too many Black girls" working the club.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Chanel Nicholson, who worked at brothers Ali and Hassan Davari's clubs from 18 to 24, has filed a civil rights complaint against them. While she was a high earner, she claims that two of the brother's four clubs refused to rehire her this summer because of her race.
Nicholson sued the clubs for damages, including lost earnings. She said that she would frequently arrive at the club eager to work, only to be denied by the boss. "At the time, I would just take it," she said. "I don't feel that anybody should be treated like that—I look pretty, I smell good, I make sure I do every time. I can't scrub my skin off."
She also called the clubs "a very toxic environment" where management often sent black workers home. Her complaint is for a period beginning in 2017. She thinks she has at least 20 former colleagues who were treated similarly.
A few other Black strippers who said they had experienced the same thing have joined Nicholson to file a federal class-action lawsuit against the Davadri brothers accusing them of intentional racism.
Centerfolds Houston, Solid Platinum Cabaret, Splendor Gentlemen's Club, and The Cover Girls are all owned by the Davadri brothers. They are accused of breaking the 1866 Civil Rights Act, which says that all citizens have the same legal rights to form and execute contracts as white people.
