Authorities said that a pregnant lady was tragically shot in the head after her baby shower in New York. She was attempting to break up a quarrel between her ex-boyfriend and the father of her unborn child.
Shanice Young, 31, was murdered outside her Harlem residence at about 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, the New York Daily News said.
"She was due in five days," her father Thurman Young, 57, told the Daily News.
"'This baby is due in five days, Daddy,' she said. Get ready.' 'I'll be ready,' I said. That was her last statement to me."
According to police, Young brought presents from her shower inside her apartment when her ex arrived and confronted her current boyfriend.
As the men began to clash, Young entered and attempted to calm their conflict. One of the men drew a pistol and fired a shot, striking Young in the head. Police are still investigating who fired the shot.
The 31-year-old woman was taken to Harlem Hospital, where she and her unborn child were pronounced dead. According to ABC New York, Young leaves behind two more children and her two younger siblings, who she had been raising.
As police continue their investigation, no arrests have been made.
